Sole practitioner, designing residential and commercial structures for 36 years. The first 10 years I owned and ran a small design & build company.
Hands on tools every day. One project at a time for a small crew of three. This has given me a unique understanding of the construction process. From an idea, through to contract documents and on to the built project. I have a strong understanding of building structure and how materials fit together. I use unconventional and conventional materials in an innovative way. Providing clients with unique homes that stand apart. I place a strong emphasis on the environment using materials and building systems that leave a small ecological footprint. My buildings always exceed the building code minimum standard for thermal efficiency. I Have experience in all construction methods: earth, straw-bale, lightweight concrete and all the conventional materials. I use 3D BIM (building information modeling) to conceptualize and produce the contract documents. I have traveled extensively to North America, Asia and Europe as part of my further education - working as a builder and designer, assimilating ideas and construction methods. Also attending conferences, seminars and workshops in my fields of interest. This has given me a global perspective of the built environment.
I use up-to-date computer software "Archicad & Twinmotion" to fully resolve the building model, eliminating unknowns and design errors. Projects can be fully illustrated at a very early stage to give a full and complete understanding of the structure. I provide sun studies and heat loss calculations along with economic analysis to fully explore design alternatives.Emphasis is placed on your aesthetic interests and needs of the chosen site, energy efficiency and indoor air quality – all within a cost-effective framework. ...
