Continuous Cover Sustainable forestry
My home and office is located on the north eastern slopes of Saddle Hill in Dunedin. The once bare fields are now 16 years into a mixed use forestry project, using 12 different species in small woodlots. There is no apparent market for some of the species, but all are or have been used at one time for high quality joinery. Good site selection and timely pruning will hopefully turn these trees into a valuable resource. An ongoing project offering an alternative to the clear fell model.
Wood plays an important part in my architecture. Its role in the structure and the aesthetic make it one of the key element in much of my work
Its unique properties, ease of use and enduring qualities enable it to be used in a multitude of ways, with quality timber being useful far beyond its original intent.
Market forces dictate that only 2 timber species have any value, Pine and Douglas fir.
My aim is to prove that other species can also be added to that list.
