the Straw bale house

 Redundancy:
•Architecture: the inclusion of extra components that are not strictly necessary to functioning, in case of failure in other components
Drained cavity post & beam
Building with straw is not so much a revolution, as evolution, each project adding to the knowledge base. There are many different views on how a straw-bale house should be constructed. My view is based on my experiences designing and building them. It is based on the premise that an easy-to-build system using common trade practices will become the standard, giving clients confidence and a worry free builidng experience.
The introduction of a drained cavity/rain-screen has enabled straw buildings to sit comfortably within todays new building regulations. This additional redundancy* still gives clients the performance and aesthetic qualities, that drew them to straw-bale in the first place
The thermal performance, sound insulating qualities and general ambience of a straw-bale house is unsurpassed. Three times the R value of the building code, along with the thermal mass of the interior render provide superior thermal performance. With post and beam & cavity there are no limitation to the design options and locations.
